Nations

is a network of indigenous missionary movements

We exist together in a covenant of Shalom,
(the Hebrew word meaning much more than peace,
but wholeness, a desire for the other's ultimate good.)

75% of today's Christian manpower lies in the non-western world.
For 200 years mission has been largely a western domain but in the last
30 years there has been a tremendous growth of non-western mission movements.

NATIONS seeks to serve and nurture some of these newly formed mission movements.
We draw on the gifts and ministries of both east and west to do so.

How do we operate?

NATIONS is a movement of the Holy Spirit.
Our passion is to see Jesus receive the full reward of his sufferings:
"that the nations might become an offering acceptable to God,
sanctified by the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:16).

Discipleship and Training

Each mission movement in the Nations network has its own method
of training their recruits, and other Nations
members and friends
sometimes join them in their own country to help teach etc.

This can include anything from basic missionary principles,
to business studies which will enable people to support themselves where
the Lord sends them to minister.

However some leaders are now asking for joint training programmes.
There is also a need for some of the future missionaries to learn English,
still the common language among most missionaries,
and the language of many training materials and most mission research.

We need English teachers

NATIONS is sending out an urgent request for help for those who can
teach English as a foreign language - or who are willing to learn - and
are prepared to give at least one term (and preferably longer) to this work.

The essential qualification is a belief that you are being called to contribute
in this way to the preparation of a mission force which will play an important
part in fulfilling the commission which Jesus gave to his disciples.
(Matthew 28:18-20).

However, teaching experience, a good command of English, an interest
in language (and a sense of humour!) are also helpful.

The work is done on a 'self-supporting' basis - but the rewards of working
with committed young people are great. The Language School is situated in
Llanelli, a town about 12 miles west of Swansea in South Wales, UK.

In earlier times the prosperity of the town was based upon the manufacture
of saucepans and similar goods, but it is now becoming a tourist centre
for visitors wishing to discover the beauties of the nearby area.
There is no accommodation available on our premises but it is possible
to rent houses or flats in the town without too much difficulty.

We have two Korean mission groups with us for training at the moment;
current numbers are 24 but we are expecting this to rise gradually.
Students usually stay with us for about a year before moving on to the
mission field to which they are called or to their next stage of training.
Alongside the language teaching they also receive practical and theoretical
training in various aspects of world mission.

At the present time we give 3 hours of English teaching each morning from
Mon.- Wed., but there are many other informal opportunities to help
students with their language acquisition; one-to one conversation practice,
help with letter-writing, preparation of personal testimony or preaching in
English, learning English worship songs etc. Further hours each week are
given to mission teaching and training.

Some of our students have their children here in UK with them, so for their
sake our terms correspond as closely as possible with the terms of the
local primary schools. We use the Oxford "Headway" series as a basic course
but supplement this with other activities which are more specifically
relevant to the students' desire to be able to share the gospel with
others. We also try to help our students to understand the principles of
language learning in general since this will be an important tool for them
when they go to the mission field.

This might just change your whole life!

We are much more than a Language and Mission School; we are a
small team of people dedicated to the development of mission movements
across the world.  So those who join us will have the opportunity not only
to teach English but also to be part of a community whose life together is
based on prayer. You will discover more about what God is doing among his
people in many different countries and perhaps you will be able to find or
confirm your own calling.

It's a busy but exciting and challenging life!

If what you have read so far has awakened interest, or perhaps even
curiosity, in you, why not get in touch with us to discover more?

We also need one or two experienced administrators for this and other
aspects of the ministry of Nations!
