ONE DAY THE BEGGAR DIED: EDITORIAL

One of our partners in a poor country was very upset a couple of weeks ago. He is a good man and on this occasion he had spent a lot of his wages from his job to put on a free DCI teaching seminar for leaders and pastors but curiously instead of gratitude he had men lining up to ask him to pay them a few dollars a month and for this he could put his name or ours over their churches. Some would not even take no for an answer and he didn't know what to say. Sadly the same problem comes the way of these pages quite often, and if you click on this page you can read some of things we say in reply, for right or for wrong.

HOW LONG, HOW LONG ?

These haunting poetic lyrics caught our heart last Sunday. They are from Psalm 13, a song by our friend, worship leader Nigel Briggs. You can hear two samples of the music here and here.

When there's sorrow in my heart
Where do I go?
When I wrestle with my thoughts
How long do I have to wait?
When the darkness comes around me
And there's nowhere left to hide
Hear my cry

How long, how long . .
For your mercy and your kingdom to come?
How long, how long to wait?

When the laughter and the joy
Is stripped away
And the silence in my heart
Is like a heavy weight
When I'm running through the darkness
And my eyes can't see your light
Hear my cry, hear my cry

How long, how long . .
For your mercy and your kingdom to come?
How long, how long to wait?
I still rejoice in your salvation
And trust in your unfailing love

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WE HAVE A BABY: KENYA

The July 7th story of the young already abandoned mother in Kenya who was shockingly gang-raped in the recent political violence touched everyone's heart. She serves with our School of Mission partners in Nairobi and in the unwanted pregnancy that followed the attack somehow she found the grace in unspeakable emotional suffering to keep the baby. We heard about this young lady when serious complications set in and her life was at risk. The hospital had sent her home because neither she nor our partners had the funds to pay for treatment. Kind people stepped in instantly and yesterday we heard that an urgent Ceasarean section had taken place to deliver a premature baby girl, who is well, and so is her mother. We will keep an eye on what happens next.

ARMED ROBBERS, RAPE AND NOW FLOODS: LIBERIA

Yesterday our friend John Duco in Paynesville told us how on top of 15 nights of continual robbery and rape by armed gangs that had terrorised his family and his Paynesville neighbourhood, non-stop heavy rain had now brought devastating floods which put hundreds of homes with all their possessions and food under water for over 23 hours. His church and School of Mission are doing all they can to help people including their own poor members while the armed gangs took full advantage of the chaos to go on a looting rampage. If you wish to help the relief operation please use the Paypal link on the left and we will do the rest.

LIFE EMERGES AFTER FIVE MILLION DEATHS: CONGO

The leader of another new School of Mission some way out from Kinshasa in DR Congo, Kikavuanga Dede, wrote in today to say that he has 65 students, all full of vision to open new churches for the many spiritually and materially impoverished people in this country where, can you believe it, over 5 million have lost their lives to war, famine and disease in the last decade. He said thank you for making it so easy to download all the free lessons.

SIXTY SEVEN PEOPLE DECIDE FOR JESUS: CONGO

Thirty year two students visited every home in villages 35kms away and took gifts to the poor. With God's help sixty-seven people decided to follow Jesus and we did our best to take them to local churches. Our graduation is in October. Thanks for the books you sent, after 6 months in the post they arrived.

EASY WAY TO START A NEW CHURCH

Our main approach is to move to a city, get a job and then to share the gospel via power evangelism, that is through offering to pray for the sick and looking to God for words of knowledge. People soon decide for Christ and we gather them into small groups that meet in homes. After two or three small groups have been formed then we start a Sunday night service in a rented room. When we  reach 50 to 100 adults then it's time to move to Sunday mornings.

FROM BEGGARS TO BUSINESSMEN: UGANDA

Two beggars who sat in the streets begging for a living now sell charcoal. They look good and have stopped begging. They started a business with $60 from our DCI Bank for the Poor. They are happy and worshiping God with us. We have also trained seven orphans in sewing and knitting and equipped them with machines. Twenty-three widows have been given small loans this year and are selling second-hand clothes, charcoal, dry fish and farm products. They come to worship God in joy because they can now pay their bills and send their children to school. Another group got a loan of $200 and are buying lorry loads of dry firewood to sell. The Banking for the Poor scheme is so fruitful for us.

CHILE REACHES OUT TO AFRICA

Some years ago the Lord challenged me to open an orphanage in rural Kenya and to find support from Chile to do this. This was difficult but my wife and I made a start and four years later we have 40 Kenyan children under care with 45 volunteers from Chile helping us. We call it Mission Africa.

TWO BIG PROBLEMS FIND A SOLUTION: NIGERIA

We found two major problems in our first School of Mission. We did not follow up our students to know how they were doing and we did not start income producing micro-projects to support the leader after church planting so the new church died after we have suffered to win souls. This time we are determined to succeed, we have two new groups with 25 students in each.

HARD WORK TRIPLES CHURCH: BRAZIL

We visited people at home 14 hours a day for 9 days, hard work but we saw our church numbers double, in fact they have now tripled. The people who helped us were Church Starts from the USA. We offered to return for 3 evenings to study a booklet on People Who Knew Jesus. Now we use The Power of Faith to carry on the in-home meetings. We have also changed our normal Sunday School into a DCI School of Mission to prepare future leaders who will plant new churches.

Two weeks later another arson attempt was made and last night at 3.30 a.m the house was set on fire again. Please pray for God’s protection over Pastor Victor and his family and church.

FREE TRAINING DEEP IN FORESTS: PERU

I am in Satipo in the heart of the Peruvian forests to open the next DCI School of Mission. We have such a longing to be a blessing, to the different peoples in Peru and not just be Sunday believers who do nothing else. We want to rise to the Christ's command to go, to preach, to teach, to baptize and to make disciples, and you soon learn that to do this means you invest your possessions as well as your life whether you are called to pray, to give, to send or to go. It is all part of the Spirit of God bringing the call of God.

THE COST OF AN ELECTION GONE WRONG: KENYA

During Kenya’s recent post-election violence one of our kindergarten teachers became a victim of political gang rape and became pregnant.  In this unbearable emotional trauma God has been giving her grace to give birth to a baby instead of having an abortion.  Due to the tremendous stress the mother has now developed a complication and urgently needs a Caesarean section to deliver a premature baby or she will lose both the baby and very possibly her own life. We have been standing with her all along but it is now beyond our ability to find the necessary $650 for the hospital. Please do keep this lady in your prayers. The violence left a great scar in the lives of many here in Kenya.

§ The funds have been raised instantly but everybody, please do pray for this very brave young lady in the unimaginable suffering that has come to her.

THANKS FOR AN EXTRA 100,000 VISITS IN JUNE

The total number of hits on this website in June was 742,130 which is over 100,000 more than usual. Let's imagine that just 10% of the readers take away someone to pray for, and let's imagine that just 10% of those who do pray also hear the Lord calling them to do something beautiful for Jesus and for the lost, the last and the least. That could be a lot of new prayer and new activities going on. Thanks for your visit too, come back and see us again soon please.

250 MEN READY TO GO: CAMEROON

We planned a 7 day seminar but it went so well that we continued to 14 days. We have selected 25 people who will be trained for missions and equipped with a study bible, a cassette player and a bike each. My goal is to reach every state of Cameroon by November, altogether we have 250 pastors who are ready to go to the villages and plant churches. Nigeria is ready to do the same and we have 25 pastors there to win the lost at all cost.

ARMED ROBBERS ATTACK DCI PARTNER: LIBERIA

My entire family is in shock after six armed robbers attacked our home at 3.45 am this morning. These criminals attack homes here in Monrovia in search of money and any valuables they can lay their hands on and they rape small girls and women victims. This has has left all my children in shock and in serious fear because these criminals threatened to come back again. Our brave neighbours  came to our rescue and the gang fled. They police came after an hour. God took care of us and no-one was harmed and we had no money in the house but please pray for my family as we are very shocked.

HOW TO BEST HELP POOR PEOPLE IN CHURCH: BRAZIL

They come asking because many believe that every church has money and all pastors have big bank accounts maybe because they have seen Christian TV or heard the stories. You do well do create work for your poor people because long-term this will turn them from being people in need to people who have enough to live on and plenty to give. We can help you to get a project started. Offering work will also reveal who is serious about escaping poverty and who is happy to live by begging. In the story of the rich man and the beggar in the gospel there is one line that touched my heart many years ago, it says, "One day the beggar died."  The beggar still needs to die in a lot of people and be replaced by a man or a woman of faith who will pray hard and work hard.
Les Norman, answering a question from Brazil.
